Dear Colleagues,
Thanks to everyone who participated in the online dialogue/discussion about the future direction of our Conflict Transformation work at Valencia. We are working with the many thoughtful comments, suggestions and points of consideration made by the group.
To date, no decision has been made in relation to the content of the October and January trainings, but the dates have been secured with Dr. Alma Jadallah. It was pointed out that the proposed January dates are problematic for staff involved in registration. A suggestion was made to start the January training on Friday so that individuals involved in registration would only need to be released from their regular duties for one day. Hopefully, with enough advance notice and preparation, this could be accommodated by their supervisors.
The Initiative is currently exploring funding partners to support our continued work in Conflict Transformation (beyond the two trainings that have been scheduled for October and January). Please look for further update in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks!
~Rachel

Subject: Feedback Please: Conflict Transformation Training
Greetings!
After receiving feedback from a number of people about the Conflict Transformation Trainings for the fall,
we have re-evaluated the proposed schedule of sessions.
Because people felt it would be too much to expect a person to spend six days in training over a one week period (those who hope to train in Session A and Session B), it was suggested that we break up the two levels of training so that participants have a break in between.
The proposed schedule is as follows:
Session A: Twenty hours of Conflict Transformation Training with Dr. Alma Jadallah, October 15th-17th
This is repetition of the spring training but for twenty new participants from throughout the college. We would promote the
training and solicit applications in much the same way we did this spring.
Session B: Twenty hours of Train-the-Trainer Conflict Transformation Training with Dr. Alma Jadallah, January 6th-8th
This training is for those who have completed Session A and want to continue with the work. The 6th and the 7th of January
are planning days for faculty.
Dr. Alma Jadallah is available on these dates if we agree to this schedule. Please let me know your thoughts, feedback and suggestions as I hope to be in contact with Alma later this week.
Thanks!
~Rachel

Subject: Update: Conflict Resolution Training
Dear Friends,
The Conflict Resolution Trainees met Friday on the West Campus and gave us concrete feedback about the direction for future trainings. The group is in agreement that they would like to have and see more training by Alma here at Valencia.
It was suggested that we offer another opportunity for 20 colleagues to experience the first round of training (Session A) and that Alma stay for a few more days to offer more extensive training (Session B) to those who have gone through Session A. This would include the 20 participants from the spring training as well as the new group in the fall.
We discussed dates and it was suggested that we try and bring Alma back to the college in October. The goal in mind is to develop a Train the Trainer program at the college. Clearly a great deal of discussion and development of these ideas needs to take place. One thing that needs to happen quickly, if we are in agreement, is to secure dates with Alma. The last three weeks in October seem to be viable dates. Can anyone think of a reason to choose one week over the others?
In addition to the need for training of Faculty, Staff and Administrators, much talk has been made about providing training for Students. Perhaps we could call together those interested in this work, both for students and colleagues, and put together proposals for the larger group to give their feedback.
So much more needs to be said in this email but I am limited on time. Please respond with any comments or suggestions.
Special thanks to Subhas for leading the World Café on West Campus Thursday with 28 participants. And to Penny and Iris for planning and facilitating the meeting Friday on West.
